The Power of Eyes / House of Cards Season 2

I spent the last two weeks on an audivisual essay about the priviliged relationship between Frank and the viewer. The unique use of breaking the fourth wall amazed me right from season one. I binge-watched Season 2 with friends of mine and knew instantly I had to do something. But instead of writing about it, I decided to try something new. This is my first audivisual essay!

I hope you enjoy!

The Risk not Taken - Alex Glawion

I really got into short films recently and I developed
much respect for many artists creating astonishingly well elaborated continuity, sound and visual design and even found the time for a narrative!

"I must look like hell" - Mixed Blood (1984)

What happens when a director chooses to feature a single pseudo-professonial and amateurs? Paul Morrissey's Mixed Blood (1984) is what happens.

Prince Avalanche

As I read through various reviews on David Gordon Green's Prince Avalanche (2013) I was once again struck by how the same visual and auditory information can do so differently influence a viewers opinion. I think, this is especially the case in Prince Avalanche because of the movie's simplicity regarding artificiality, the amount of characters, props or actual action.

Nippon Impression: Tamako in Moratorium (2013)

Volunteering on this year's Nippon Connection in Frankfurt/Main last week again, I went to see some movies on the film festival celebrating Japanese cinema. Here's my analytical review on an inspiring slow-motion coming of age comedy by Nobuhiro Yamashita that goes by the title of

TAMAKO IN MORATORIUM

source: nipponconnection.com

(Moratoriamu Tamako)

Nobuhiro YAMASHITA, Japan 2013, DCP, 78 Mins.

After graduating Tamako returns to her hometown Kofu to again live with her father, a divorced owner of a small sports equipment store. Friendless - except for pimply junior-high student Hitoshi - all Tamako literally ever does is to scoff down her father's meals, sleep, read mangas on or off the toilet, and ocasionally devote her attention to playing Tekken on the video game console.
